PAYROLL TECHNICIAN II

Under general supervision of the Payroll Supervisor, the incumbent independently performs payroll processing transactions for management, faculty, staff, and students for assigned areas. Transmits payroll information via on-line terminals to the State Controller's Office. Reconciles payroll warrants against documents and certified attendance. Provides information and assistance regarding employee's payroll records.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of Payroll and HR concepts, laws, and regulations. Ability to independently select, understand, and consistently apply policies and procedures according to directives or CSU guidelines. Excellent analytical skills. Ability to review detailed numerical records or transactions to identify, trace, and correct processing errors and take appropriate action to remedy problems. Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work under pressure with constant interruptions. Accurate data entry skills. Ability to perform complex arithmetic computations. Computer competence, including the ability to learn the PIMS and PeopleSoft HR systems. Good English grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills. Excellent communication and listening skills. Ability to synthesize information and understand when to seek assistance of staff in answering questions. Strong customer service skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Professional attitude and ability to be a team player.

Experience & Education:
Equivalent to two years of experience preparing and processing payroll documents.

Salary: $2,835 - $4,252 per month

This is a full-time temporary position to 8/15/09.
