The underwriter will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and making credit decisions on requests from existing and potential clients for home equity and 1st mortgage products. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to the following essential functions listed below:

Essential Functions:
- Perform the analysis and make credit decisions on loans in accordance with all credit and product policies.
- Review loan documentation for acceptability
- Assist with and contribute to the continued effort to improve the department and those around you.
- Assist with the development and installation of the New Credit Decisioning System and suggest ways to improve the daily decision tools.
- Accurately follow all procedures and processing guidelines.
- Thoroughly understand and apply credit policies, loan product policies and all federal regulations related to the granting of credit (i.e., Reg. B, FCRA, Reg. Z, Reg. AA, Reg. O).
- Recommend updates and changes to credit policies and procedures and ensure that the Credit Department is in compliance with those policies and procedures.
- Develop loan applications and communicate with customers over the telephone when necessary.
- Remain flexible and work with team members and management to staff the Credit Department during hours of operation.

Qualifications:
Experience & Qualifications:
- 3 - 5 years of related work experience in a high volume lending environment.
- Extensive knowledge of home equity and mortgage lending, prefer banking environment.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and concepts quickly.
- Extensive wholesale banking credit granting experience in a large financial institution, preferably one using an automated credit scoring system.

Education and/or Certifications:
- An undergraduate degree

Technical skills and abilities:
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability, willingness and desire to work in a dynamic, changing and fast-paced environment
- Computer literate in a network environment (i.e., NT, MS Office Products, etc.)
