Engineer/Scientist

3D Research, a subsidiary of Schafer Corporation has an opportunity for an Engineer/Scientist to work on KEI program, Supportability and Deployability sub-Integrated Product Team (IPT), Specialty Engineering. Responsible for supporting KEI Element level activities in the Specialty Engineering System Safety domain. Individual will be responsible for directing a small dedicated cadre of safety engineers implementing the KEI System Safety program.

Apply analytical techniques to identify safety requirements, evaluate designs and compliance with requirements and standards, develop associated plans and trade studies, participate with IPTs to assist designers in meeting requirements; prepare safety hazard analyses, Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), and inputs to the Hazard Tracking logs; conduct safety inspections of the KEI facilities and equipment; and support validation of the KEI safety requirements. Generate requirements; conduct design and document reviews; and participate in Engineering Control/Review Boards, technical meetings, and user conferences.

Activities include, but are not limited to, interfacing with the customer, attending meetings, developing and making technical presentations, responding to technical questions and resolving technical issues, investigating safety incidents, identifying and evaluating safety and health requirements, and other approved requests for support. May also be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:
Previous experience in Systems Safety engineering and Health Hazards assessment are required. Knowledge of safety standards and guidelines, e.g., MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-454, MIL-STD-1472, ANSI, OSI, OSHA; software safety; and missile defense. Familiarity with safety analysis techniques, e.g., PHL/PHA, fault tree analysis. Conduct of accident/incident investigations. Ability to develop, maintain, implement, and coordinate safety deliverables, analyses, reports, technical memoranda, and procedures.
