EQUIPMENT SERVICE EMPLOYEE (ESE)

Northwest Airlines is seeking committed, energetic, hard working, customer service oriented individuals interested in working as luggage handlers. The main duties will include loading and unloading passenger luggage, freight and U.S. mail from the aircraft. Other duties will include operating ground equipment; sorting the luggage based on location; and parking the aircraft at the gates. These are crucial services in maintaining our on-time performance goals, and helping Northwest provide exceptional service to our customers. All positions are part-time with the potential for full-time based on seniority and availability.
Work Environment As an Equipment Service Employee you will primarily be working outdoors. You must have tolerance to inclement weather in extreme heat and below freezing temperature. Working at heights will be required, up to seven stories, as well as working on ladders and conveyor belts. You must be extremely safety conscious in this environment and able to wear protective safety gear. A large portion of the work will be in confined spaces such as the cargo bin of the aircraft. Safe driving procedures are also important because you will be operating various equipment in very congested work areas. The ability to work any shift including days, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays is required. Union membership is required.
Minimum Qualifications
18 years of age or older
Valid driver's license and good driving record (will be verified)
High School diploma or GED. Must be able to read, write, speak and easily understand the English language.
U.S. citizen or possess work authorization in the U.S.
Must pass physical examination: ability to lift 75 lbs.; pass a vision and hearing test; and drug screen
Must pass a pre-employment background investigation required by the FAA.
Ability to work rotating shifts including, days, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to deliver quality customer service
2 - 3 years manual labor experience and/or heavy equipment operation
Comprehension skills for calculating, information retrieval on a computer and memorization of city and airline codes
Commercial driver's license
Ability to operate a manual transmission
