Description:
The primary role for this position will be to set the architecture direction for Sony Connect?s technology group. This group is responsible for the development and maintenance of Sony Connect?s digital content distribution services.

The ideal candidate will understand the problem domain in terms of functionality, user experience, business, financial and operations considerations. This understanding must lead to the application of the appropriate technical solution to the problem. He/She must possess the ability to balance the supervision of a wide array of applications and technologies with attention to detail on areas that require particular consideration.

The Architect will be the thought leader for the application of technologies and standards. The ideal candidate will encourage elegant, high-quality solutions that meet budget and time constraints of the business. He/She will be the advocate for best practices and help achieve higher levels of efficiencies. This role requires effective mediation and communication skills to gain consensus between various groups and provide clear messaging and direction within the technology group.

The position will report into the Vice President of Technology and will be based out of Sony Connect?s offices in Los Angeles.


Required Skills:
?10+ years of experience as a technical lead and/or architect
?Expertise with J2EE 1.4 and Java EE 5 technologies and 5+ years of hands-on experience
?In-depth knowledge and experience with data modeling at conceptual, logical and physical levels and hands-on SQL experience
?Experience building web based solutions with enhanced UIs with HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript and AJAX
?Experience with XML and its associated technologies (e.g. SAX, DOM, JDOM, XSL, JAXB)
?Knowledge and experience with Web Services technologies (e.g. SOAP, REST, JAX-WS, Apache Axis)
?Experience using best-of-breed and/or common open source frameworks/servers/tools (e.g. Spring, Struts, log4j, Apache, Tomcat, Ant, Maven)
?Experience building high-performance, high-availability and scalable web-based and back-end applications
?Experience using, advocating and implementing Test Driven Development and testing frameworks (e.g. JUnit, TestNG, HttpUnit, DBUnit)
?Knowledge and experience applying security best practices in the context of application development for the web and E-commerce environments
?Thorough understanding of development methodologies and how they are best applied to different types of projects
?Excellent written and verbal communication skills
?Documentation skills
?Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or a related field

Desirable Skills:
?Experience with digital solutions for music, video and other media types
?Design, implementation, enhancements and maintenance of an E-commerce solution
?Portal Infranet billing package
?Digital Rights Management concepts/technologies
?C/C++/.NET/COM (client software development experience)
