Director of Major Gifts

Position Description:

KOCE, a public television station serving more than 5 million viewers in Orange County and greater Los Angeles markets is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Director of Major Gifts.  This position reports directly to the KOCE Executive Vice President, and is responsible for the supervision and oversight of all major giving activities including individual donors of $1000 or more, as well as corporate gifts and sponsorships. The Director of Major gifts develops and maintains relationships with KOCE?s major donors and is the liaison to higher-level giving clubs as well as the leadership volunteers who assist in the major giving program.

 

Duties and Requirements:Responsible for all aspects of KOCE?s major gifts program, working with individuals, corporations, private and family foundations to secure annual gifts of $1,000 or more as well as capital/special project support. Establish and manage an effective major gifts program, including responsibility for prospect research, presentation materials, and all activities to cultivate, track, and solicit individual and corporate supporters of $1000 or more.Identify and implement opportunities for growth in the major giving program, including new prospects and creative partnerships related to KOCE programs and projects.Insure implementation of ?best practices? in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all major donors and corporate sponsors. Assist the President/General Manager and other station personnel as necessary to raise awareness of KOCE-TV in the local and regional communities.Integrate major donor and corporate sponsorship database with all Advancement functions.Maintain knowledge of current tax treatment and other developments relevant to individual and corporate giving.Ensure excellence in ?client care services? to major donors.

 Minimum Qualifications:

The successful Director of Major Gifts will have a background in advancement, major gifts from individuals and/or corporations, preferably with specific experience in public broadcasting, arts or cultural institutions. 

The successful candidate will bring the following skills and education to the position:

?  Possess a proven track record in corporate giving and development, preferably with a Public Broadcasting System organization.

?  Have a record of success in handling major individual and corporate supporters.

?  Must be a team player, goal oriented and highly self-motivated.

?  Must be willing to pursue new ideas and be creative with new opportunities

?  Excellent written and oral communication skills.

?  Baccalaureate degree required; advanced degree or professional certification in non-profit management, communications, or fundraising management preferred.

?  Be able to demonstrate both an independent nature and an advanced ability to work well with staff, teams, high-level volunteers, corporate executives and others.
