Job Description

Major Responsibilities:
Under supervision, performs the following tasks:

*Receives samples from the Smelter production processes,

*Checks for proper identification and communicates with the appropriate people in the Smelter whenever the samples are not properly identified.

*Expeditiously crushes and pulverizes process samples following established protocols designed to achieve a consistent sample size and grind.

*Prepares samples for analysis on the XRF Spectrometer.

*Analyzes samples for Magnetite using a SATMAGAN.

*Communicates the results of this analysis to the smelter control room using the PI database system.

*Analyzes samples on a Jordan Valley EX3000 and a JV3600 EXRF whenever the primary analyst is not available or is on vacation.

*Maintains a clean work area continually during the shift and thoroughly at the end of each shift.

*Performs sample preparation and chemical analysis at the Centralized Laboratory as needed.

*Participate in an ongoing Safety Program.

Minimum Requirements:
*High School Graduate or GED.
* Must be able to read and understand written instructions.
*Must be able to pass a respirator fit test.
* Must be able to work in both a hot and cold environment.
* Must be able to handle sample prep equipment throughout the day that can weigh up to thirty-five pounds.
*Must have prior laboratory experience to perform additional tasks at the Central Analytical Lab.
*Must be accurate, detail oriented with well developed problem solving skills.
*Must be able to work rotating 12 hour shifts as well as scheduled overtime at ASOMA Lab and Centralized Lab
* Must be able to communicate well with other employees; Must be dependable since from time to time you may be the only person on shift at the ASOMA Lab.
*Demonstrated ability to work with computers on a wide variety of applications. Must hold a valid drivers license. Safety must be a core value.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Previous ASOMA laboratory experience preferred
* Experience with the PI data base system preferred

Criteria/Conditions
(Specific background/skills):
Work is performed at the Asoma lab with exposure to extremes in weather. Work may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosive, fumes or airborne particles. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, reach, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see. The incumbent may occasionally be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 35 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The incumbent will be required to wear personal protective equipment on a regular basis: hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear. The incumbent will be required to wear the following PPE as needed: respirator, steel-toe boots, protective clothing (rain suit, etc.), gloves, and other PPE as determined to protect the individual.
