Sr Communications/PC Technician

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:
Under general supervision serves as the lead worker integrating both communication and desktop support efforts.
- Leads in the setup of complex data and voice networks and desktop equipment
- Computer and network field support; including the implementation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of computers, Cisco network equipment, voice hardware and both computer and network software
- Maintenance of Avaya, Cisco or Nortel PBX or key systems including daily administration and Disaster Recovery procedures
- Technical expertise in design, installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of wired and wireless networks and voice equipment, desktop and notebook systems and related devices
- Participates in inventory control of spare parts and components
- May design and conduct training sessions for network and computer users
- Interface with customers and area Management teams
- Interface vendor support groups during outages or periods of degraded performance
- Performs other duties as required

Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Four (4) years experience in computer equipment, data network, design and field support, including implementation, troubleshooting, voice and data telecommunications systems hardware/software maintenance and repair.
- Graduate from a recognized program of technical training in electronics, telecommunications, two-way radio repair, software applications or closely related area may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience
- Technical expertise in maintenance of Cisco networks and Avaya, Cisco or Nortel PBX or key systems including daily administration and Disaster Recovery procedures
- Ability to read, understand and interpret technical manuals
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Self-directed with the ability to plan and organize workflow; including procurement, project management, daily tasks and customer service

Criteria/Conditions:
- Work is mostly performed in various work environments, including office, production plant, mine and tough terrain areas
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 40 pounds) during the course of the workday
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing plant environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other protective equipment as required
