Systems Administrator
Founded in 1946, Spherion is a national pioneer in the Technology Industry providing its clients with qualified temporary, contract and direct hire employees. Currently we are looking to fill a need for a Systems Administrator for a 6 month contract in Phoenix.
Plan, develop, modify, maintain and install complex system software using software engineering releases and utilities from the manufacturers in accordance with the business plans of client. Is responsible for maintaining components of the operating systems, various subsystems, and peripheral products. Functions as third level (final in-house) support for operations, customers and applications programmers for problem analysis. Projects assigned are complex and require an effective understanding of overall operating system architectures and a general knowledge of at least one specific sub-system.
Expertise is focused on installing, configuring and maintaining distributed AIX operating systems on IBM Pseries and RS/6000 hardware platforms. Breadth of technical skills span traditional programming and scripting languages and tools (C/C++, Korn Shell, sed, awk, Perl, etc), relational databases (Oracle), distributed networking (TCP/IP, Ethernet) to cross platform interfaces, et al. Also requires typical system administration/programming skills such as storage capacity management, performance tuning, system dump analysis, server hardening (security) and the design of complex hardware configurations).
Requires breadth of business knowledge sufficient to work with application development groups in problem determination. Knowledge or background with Cisco network equipment, firewalls, network security or Windows is a plus. Systems administration/programming services includes the full life cycle from implementation of new systems (analysis, design, construction or acquisition, testing, production installation, training, documentation and integration with existing systems) to maintenance of existing systems (systems enhancements, corrective maintenance, query support and general customer support). Operating Systems run in Production "7x24" (7 days, 24 hours/day); therefore on-call duty for 7x24 support is required. Also requires off-shift software testing, typically on weekends.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires a BS/BA equivalency or any combination of four years relevant work experience and completed years of relevant college coursework. An additional 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating advanced knowledge of distributed system software, hardware and integration services in a focused technical area is required (see below). Demonstrated ability to apply problem analysis/resolution techniques and knowledge of operating systems architectures. Demonstrated ability to apply several of the
systems programming specialized skills (Capacity management, performance tuning,
system dump analysis, and the design of complex hardware configurations). Demonstrated oral communication and interpersonal skills.
