Job Scope and Dimensions
Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, design, integration, and completion of engineering projects within areas of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties personally or through assigned team members.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities of the Job
* Plans and implements new power supply programs, including defining the project philosophy, activities, milestones.
* Performs engineering functions such as circuit design and analysis, prototype testing and evaluation.
* Oversee project staff workload.
* Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned projects.
* Provides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly.
* Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.
* Identifies project staffing requirements and coordinates staffing with supporting organization managers.
* Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables and reports.
* Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as planning, preparation and set-up, product testing, and troubleshooting.
* Coordinates interdepartmental activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
* Prepares interim and completion project reports such as qualification testing.
* Interfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met.
* Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management.
* Duties include participating in interviews, planning, and assignments, and directing work and resolving problems.
Experience
* Power supply design experience.
* Previous project management experience and excellent supervisory and organizational skills.
* Language ability- read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and /or customers.
Technical Skills
Describe the general and specific skills needed to satisfactorily perform the job.
* Reasoning - ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
* Computer skills - Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Database software, Spice, Mathcad, Autocad, PCAD.
* Root Cause Analysis - Must be able to troubleshoot failures down to the component level and derive the root cause of failure in order to determine corrective action, if required.
* Design Skills - High frequency magnetics, analog circuits, component selection, worst case and stress analysis of individual components.
* Candidate must posses a through understanding of both basic and advanced concepts in the field of high frequency switching power supply design.
* Technical Writing - Must be able to write product specifications, design verification test procedures, qualification reports etc.
* Components - Candidate must be experienced in component selection, understanding selection based on performance and cost. Experience with high density surface mount components is desirable.
* Experience with Agency approval such as UL and TUV is a plus.
Education / Training
* This position requires a Bachelors or Masters degree in engineering of the electrical sciences.
