Source Medical is currently seeking a Technical Writer for its corporate headquarters in Birmingham, AL. 

 




Job Description:

This position offers the opportunity to play a leading role in the development, deployment, and long-term growth strategy of technical publications and resources for users of Source Medical's development organization. This role requires a self-motivated, team-oriented individual who is able to play a lead role in developing the infrastructure and content needed to produce such technical documents as procedure manuals, service manuals, and related technical publications concerned with installation, operation, and maintenance of Source Medical's software applications.


Duties:

This individual will be part of the Product Development team and will work closely with other functional teams that contribute to the development, launch, and ongoing improvement and support of Source Medical's products.


This role requires a dynamic, team-oriented leader who has proven experience in collaborating with a variety of stakeholders at all levels of a fast-paced, matrixed organization. This individual must demonstrate extraordinary written and verbal communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail.


Job Requirements:

- Proficiency in translating complex, technical language and/or procedures into easy to understand documentation

- Proficiency in RoboHelp (or comparable tool used to develop user help systems for .NET and C# applications)

- Writes, in clear and concise language, such technical documents as procedure manuals, service manuals, and related technical publications concerned with software application development efforts

- Work with multiple development teams coordinating a number of priorities and needs, helping to contribute to the success of each product release

- At least 4+ years experience writing documentation and related materials for users of a commercial software application

- Experience in developing the structure needed to integrate self-help user tools into software applications, including the development of help navigation and integration with the product and linkage to other Operational systems such as CRMs

- Experience in healthcare IT and/or the healthcare industry is strongly preferred

- Superior written and oral communication skills, including mastery of the English language

- Demonstrated creative problem-solving to: meet customer needs; meet company needs; enhance users' ease of adoption; maximize the effectiveness of training tools

- (At least) a general knowledge of Operations in a software/service-oriented organization, including understanding of call center processes and CRMs

- Individual must demonstrate that they can consistently contribute to a dynamic, positive team environment

- Create and maintain documentation standards


Minimum Educational Requirements:

- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year institution

- Major/concentration in English or Communications a plus


Skills and Abilities:

- Proven project management and organizational skills

- Ability to facilitate cross-functional meetings

- Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers

- Presentation skills to internal and external/customer audiences

- Strong problem-solving, creative thinking

- Proven focus on, and attention to, detail

- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office tools including MS Project

- Proficiency in RoboHelp


Additional Desirable Qualifications:

- Prepare project plans, communications, and other project deliverables for tasks the individual is assigned to lead

- Train other internal resources on tools / systems used to develop and manage content over time

 

Travel Requirements:

 

- Multi-week travel to company's development office in Connecticut initially with periodic need to return to CT in order to interface with development team
