 General Description 


The manager of Plant Operations has total responsibility for the performance of the Alabaster plant. They are accountable for the output, costs, quality, maintenance, environmental compliance, government compliance, and personnel of this facility. Additionally, they are charged with continual improvement of the operations in all relevant areas including but not limited to maintenance, quality, output, and plant cleanliness and aesthetics. The manager must be a take-charge person that can handle the demands of a 24-hour per day operation and continually balance the competing needs of maintenance and production. They must also possess the skills needed to develop a team to manage the plant in the most effective way.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education

Minimum eight to ten years' managerial experience required.


Multiple roles of responsibility are preferred (i.e., production, maintenance, process, quality, etc.).


A track record of increasing responsibility and increasing results is required.


Prior cement, lime, or other processes utilizing rotary kilns is desired.


Prior experience in heavy industry with large rotating equipment is desired.


College degree in engineering or the relevant sciences will be given a strong preference.


Demonstrated use and knowledge of computerized business systems such as SAP is helpful.


Demonstrated knowledge of refractory brick usage and installation is desired.


Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulations and their impact on operations compliance is desired.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure the most efficient, safe, and economical operation of the Alabaster Plant within environmental and governmental regulations.


Achieve maximum profit consistent with Chemical Lime Company profit and growth objectives.


Prepare, manage, and meet operating budgets (Budget responsibilities are about $8,000,000 per year).


Prepare initial capital project requests consistent with the operating and maintenance needs of the facility.


Ensure material produced meets or exceeds quality standards.


Work with Human Resources with regard to hiring, discipline, employee relations, training, and salary administration.


Manage all the business and governmental matters relating to the Alabaster Plant (community relations, complaints, etc.).


Interact and coordinate with sales and logistics concerning products shipped from the Alabaster plant.


Develop policies, procedures, operating protocols, and methods to continually improve the facility.


Ensure all reports, notifications, and communications occur as required for operations, environmental, and government needs.
