Description

 

The application analyst position provides support to the scientists and engineers to better use the HPC systems.  Responsibilities include assisting the users with porting and debugging codes on new platforms, helping the users more effectively use the system, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks within the codes, providing support for the users when system or application problems are discovered, and assisting the administrators and vendors to resolve other system issues.  The candidate will have experience with HPC programming using Fortran77/90, C, and C++ and using MPI to build and extend scalable applications.  The candidate will be required to have experience with the Itanium architecture and understanding of performance issues of this platform including software pipelining, predicate registers, and pointer aliasing. The candidate will have experience with many of the common HPC software products in use today.  This include, but are not limited to, Intel (ia64 and x86-64), PGI, and Pathscale compilers, CPU profiling tools, MPI profiling and debugging tools, OpenMP,and  OpenMP/MPI hybrid programming.  The position requires and active DoD Secret, solid writing and communication skills, and a desire to be use the latest leading-edge HPC technologies.

 

RequirementsExtensive experience with HPC programming with Fortran77/90, C, and C++.  Experience must include model development and application porting, code optimization, and debugging large parallel codes.  Development experience must include MPI.  OpenMP and OpenMP/MPI Hybrid programming is a bonus. Require experience developing for the Itanium architecture with understanding of performance issues specific to the architecture such as software pipelining, predicate registers, and pointer aliasing as well as issues porting codes from 32-bit to 64-bit environments. Prefer experience with development tools: Intel (ia64 and x86-64), PGI, and Pathscale compilers SGI performance tools (pfmon, histex) Intel VTune PAPI/perfctr OSS CPU Profilers (Tau, Perfsuite, HPCToolkit) MPI Profilers (Vampir) Parallel Debuggers (Totalview)Active Q clearance An interest in learning and using state-of-the-art HPC systems Must be able focus on multiple tasks/projects simultaneously Solid writing and communication skills MS or Ph.D. preferred with computer Science or engineering degree with focus on computational science or proven work experience.
