Job Description:
The Consultant leads the delivery and implementation of the consulting offerings from the Global Professional Services (GPS) organization of Red Hat. From a Satellite server installation to deploying Red Hat's Global File System to leading the automation and adoption of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in an enterprise, the Consultant is instrumental in the continued successful adoption of Red Hat technologies across the spectrum of clients in North America. The Consultant's superb technical and communication skills yield the successful construction and delivery of the various artifacts that constitute a GPS offering: reference architectures, proofs of concept, benchmarks, training sessions, designs, automation programs or scripts, performance enhancements, documentation, product patches, and/or other artifacts as needed. The Consultant's ability to master new technologies coupled with Red Hat's unparalleled training programs keep the Consultant in the leading edge of Red Hat's evolving technologies and allow the Consultant to advance their technical leadership and continue their cycle of success enabling the seamless adoption of Red Hat's technologies into clients' enterprise business solutions.
Job Requirements:
Excellent technical skills in Unix or Linux system configuration and administration that includes some or all of these areas: networking, security, kernel modules, open source and proprietary software tools for monitoring and management, file systems, SAN storage, LDAP integration, Linux kernel and module compilations, RPM packages creation and deployment, authoring programs using scripting languages (e.g. bash, ksh, python, perl), high availability clusters and cluster file systems (install, configure, tune, test, administer).
Good programming, debugging, troubleshooting skills. Capable of
finding, modifying, etc kernel and package patches. Should have the
technical skill to create and apply patches. Ability to at least
rudimentarily analyze or debug kernel core dumps, troubleshoot issues,
etc.
Reasonable knowledge of performance tuning, somewhat for applications, but particularly for the system in general. Everything from VM modifications based on load, to network and other subsystem performance. Oprofile, systemtap, Intel vtune experience a plus.
Good knowledge of Red Hat products and technology, to drive additional implementation inside the customer. Currently underway with GFS, RHN planned, and substantial interest in RHTS. Will be a very early XEN beta adopter and tester.
Willing to take an active roll in meetings, push on various needs and drive projects as their primary advocate.
Act as the client's advocate inside Red Hat. Knowing who to contact in order to best convey the client's needs and requirements. Continuing to drive forward to solve their strategic needs such that continued RHEL
adoptance for both this client's business, as well as other clients in this industry.
Willing to perform in a staff augmentation role at the client. When
strategic issues are quiet, act as an additional resource in their System Administration group.
Demonstrated experience desired with development tools (GCC, various IDEs, CVS, Rational Suite), source version control tools and source code repositories, distributed multi-tier software development, object oriented programming (abstraction, inheritance), and programming with relational databases.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience communicating value, progress, and metrics (status) of key projects to required stakeholders and diverse audiences (technical and business)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or ability to complete within 60 days of hire.
