Manager Safety

Provides leadership for all Safety aspects in a union, manufacturing facility of 1,500 associates. Includes regulatory compliance and supervision of medical department. Responsible for plant safety teams, including emergency response team. Drives safety without compromising product quality or employee relations.
Creates, leads and promotes a high performance safety culture. Develops and executes plant-specific Safety vision, mission and objectives to assure continuous improvement and alignment with enterprise-wide Safety vision, mission and objectives. Develops and implements training and development, leveraging employee engagement to enhance safety. Participates on enterprise-wide teams, including audit teams, seeking and sharing best practices. Reviews and assesses safety programs for success, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing as indicated.Supervises medical department staff, emergency response team and safety teams.

Develops, manages and controls Safety budget, including researching, writing and executing capital expenditures.

Responsible for leading accident and near miss investigations, including interviewing witnesses.
Reports finding to management and associates, researching and implementing changes as indicated.

Assures OSHA regulatory compliance including queries, postings and responses. Collaborates with Engineering regarding wastewater and ammonia, adhering to EPA and related standards.

Collaborates with Human Resources, Maintenance and Ops Management to ensure adherence to employee relations, quality and production aspects. Works with Union and USDA representatives as needed. Bachelor's degree in a related area.

5 + years supervisory experience in industrial safety in a large (500+ employee) manufacturing environment.


USDA or Food industry experience a plus.

CSP or ARM certification a plus.

Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, DOT and workers' compensation laws.
Basic mathematical and statistical skills, including ability to analyze financial results.
