Our client is high growth division of a $1.4 billion and rapidly expanding consumer pet, animal health, lawn & garden products company.
SUMMARY
This position has the responsibility of growing/developing a specific Business Segment within the Pet Products Division by leading the marketing efforts of the Business Segment, and coordinating all sales and marketing efforts related to that Business Segment in conjunction with our client?s Sales Team. The person in this position will be responsible for managing a specific Business Segment within the Division and will supervise Marketing Managers and Business Segment Coordinators within assigned Business Segment. This person will also work very closely with the sales and new product development teams.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY
Plans and directs marketing of the Division?s products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Responsible for P & L for Division to ensure planned profitability is delivered.
PRIMARY DUTIESProvides effective leadership to the Marketing staff in the division.
Establishes strategic marketing plans to achieve division and corporate objectives.
Develops and executes comprehensive marketing plans and programs, both short and long range, to support sales and revenue objectives.
Researches, analyzes, and monitors financial, technological, and demographic factors to capitalize on market opportunities and minimize effects of competitive activity.
Complete P&L responsibility, including developing and managing the Division?s marketing operating budget.
Plans and oversees advertising and promotion activities including print, online, electronic media, and direct mail.
Evaluates and recommends distribution channel development programs.
Determines agencies and suppliers of record, and negotiates contract terms and conditions for major services.
Serves as liaison with internal and outside agencies on ongoing promotional campaigns.
Oversees development and production of promotional and collateral materials.
Develops and recommends product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share.
Achieves satisfactory profit/loss ratio and market share in relation to preset standards and industry and economic trends.
Ensures effective control of marketing results, and takes corrective action to guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated budgets.
Oversees and evaluates market research and adjusts marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
Monitors competitive products and marketing activities.
Oversees development and maintenance of customer database.
Establishes and maintains relationships with industry influencers and key community and strategic partners.
Resolves conflicts and facilitates changes in structure of marketing group to ensure objective fulfillment and swift response to marketing problems and opportunities.
Works with the internal Market Research department to develop successful marketing surveys on current and new product concepts, and provides feedback for future product development.
Guides preparation of marketing activity reports and presents to executive management.
Establishes and maintains a consistent corporate image throughout all product lines, promotional materials, and events.
Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a demanding position which requires the individual to keep abreast of changes in the market, to continuously learn about the competition, and to position the products in relation to the competition in a way that will lead to increased sales and market share.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises Marketing Managers and Brand Managers; may also directly supervise Product Managers, and Marketing Coordinators. Carries out supervisory and management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor degree required; MBA preferred.At least five years senior-level marketing management experience, preferably with a leading consumer packaged goods company. Experience in an entrepreneurial environment would also be beneficial.Experience managing a team of not less than five people in a marketing environment, including demonstrated success in developing marketing staff for the next level. Demonstrated success in total P&L responsibility for product category.Demonstrated success in developing new products.Demonstrated success in strategic placement by channel, by brand, and by category.Pet industry knowledge preferred.
