Environmental, Safety & Health Lead

Major Responsibilities:

Develops and directs plant-wide environmental, safety, health, and security programs to assure employee well-being, regulatory compliance and support of corporate objectives. Manage all ESH programs including Process Safety Management (PSM).

1. Ensure compliance with all Federal, state and local ESH regulations and policies and position the plant to readily meet future requirements; thus maintaining the plant's privilege to operate.

2. Manage ESH costs within accepted guidelines and budgets to ensure profitability of site business units.

3. Develop the ESH department organization to complement the corporate ESH organization.

4. Coach and develop the members of the ESH group to foster retention of valuable professionals and ensure succession of responsibilities for the future of Solutia's ESH organization. Foster the development and use of resident expertise throughout the company.

5. Provide emergency response, hazardous materials, and waste control services to the site to ensure employee safety and health and preserve corporate assets.

6. Participate on the Site Leadership Team and provide guidance and stewardship of all ESH issues. Be a Leader of ESH at the Decatur site.

7. Provide wastewater management and environmental permitting management to preserve corporate interests needed at the site.

8. Assist site management, business units and Technology with applications of safety and environmental control technology.

9. Implement the Corporate ESH Guidelines and plant safety, security, and environmental procedures to ensure our employees, contractors and visitors enjoy high levels of safety, health and environmental protection, thus reducing our liability exposure and preserving our privilege to operate. This will include Responsible Care initiatives, OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and the Behavior Based Safety Process.

10. Participate in community and business based organizations, projects and training to broaden knowledge and ensure continued visibility of Solutia organization to enhance the plant's privilege to operate. Lead the Community Advisory Panel (CAP).

 

Qualifications/Competencies:

Bachelor's Degree in related field (chemical engineering, chemistry, environmental engineering, Industrial Hygiene, etc.)

-Minimum of 10 years in ESH field within a manufacturing setting; at least 5 years of leadership experience including management of an ESH function of similar size and scope.

-Proven experience with applicable state and federal regulatory processes, current ESH practices, appropriate internal and external resources, etc.

-Proven technical and managerial skills.
