Characterization Technician

The Characterization Technician job function is an hourly position responsible for measuring physical and electrical characteristics of epitaxial layers following growth.  The Characterization Technician follows established procedures on routine work and receives little instruction on daily work requirements but may require instructions from the supervisor on new processes.  The Characterization Technician must be able to work independently. 

*2 year technical degree or equivalent
*Good oral and verbal communication
*Basic computer operating skills
*Effective time management skills
*Ability to perform basic trouble-shooting activities 

*Ability to lift 25 pounds
*Noise levels low to moderate
*Must wear cleanroom gown, mask, gloves, booties, etc.
*Must be able to wear half mask respirator


Responsible for:
Performing product inspections by operating all metrology equipment, including
*Bright light inspection, Surfscan measurements, Photoluminescence, X-ray diffraction, Hg probe CV profiling
*Large area device fabrication and testing
*Hall effect measurements
*Optical microscopy, Surface profilometry
*Operating all types of cleaning equipment
*Entering data into a manufacturing/characterization database
*Performing equipment calibrations
*Maintaining equipment, Rebuilding components (when possible)
*Wafer handling, Labeling product, Packaging product
*Empty hazardous and non-hazardous trash cans in the characterization work areas, Periodic cleaning of the characterization work areas
*Performing basic to advanced trouble-shooting activities
*Check out supplies from the stockroom for the non-destructive test room, the fab room, the test area and the characterization gown room
*Writing new ISO-9000 procedures as necessary
*Modifying current-9000 procedures as necessary to ensure procedures are current.
*Other tasks as requested
