Mechanical Engineer

Design and development of manufacturing equipment. Tyco Electronics manufactures a range of heat recoverable tubing and high performance Wire and Cable products. Applicants will need to understand thermal transfer mechanics, selection of materials for corrosive environments and mechanical equipment design.

Responsibilities will include:
Design and manufacture of machines, to include pressure vessels, through concept and final build. Working with internal functions and external agencies, to scope requirements, develop solutions, establish budgetary costs, build, certify and commission into production.
Study of current vessel design and fabrication techniques. Develop an understanding of the principles behind current ASME requirements and how these pertain to our equipment. Document design considerations to show conformance to ASME requirements. Recommend maintenance and inspection plans for existing equipment.
Develop an understanding of material selection and mechanical design for corrosive environments both in pressure vessels and electron beam cells.
The ability to travel to Asia and Mexico is a requirement, to support our manufacturing operations in these countries, average four to six times a year.
Engineering sign-off for machine modifications.
Recommend and implement machine upgrades.

 

5 plus years in equipment design.
Preferably a Mechanical PE
Competent user of AutoCAD.
Risk assessments.
Failure Modes and Effect Analysis [FMEA].
