Responsibilities:
Monitors all auxiliary equipment to ensure the reliable, safe and efficient production of energy systems such as steam, chilled water, electricity, and treated water systems including the production of boiler-quality water for steam generation.
1. Monitors and notes operating conditions of combustion turbine, steam turbine, high pressure boilers and/or Chillers. Operates auxiliary equipment, including responsibility for burner operations where applicable..
2. Controls, maintains and monitors pressure, temperatures, steam flows, hot water and/or chiller water systems, including boilers, feedwater, make up water and associated auxiliary systems.
3. Oversees fuel oil and natural gas transfer and storage; off-loads fuel, as required.
4. Blocks and isolates out equipment for maintenance, unblocks and re-tests equipment after completion of repair, in accordance with safety lock out tag out procedures.
5. Performs preventive maintenance tasks and minor maintenance tasks as required.
6. Performs chemical analysis on boiler water samples.
7. Has working knowledge of fuel pumps, general pumps, valves, motors, fans, water treatment and auxiliary plant systems.
8. Operates and regenerates water treatment systems as required to produce treated water for plant operations such as boilers, chillers, steam generators, cooling towers as necessary.
9. Performs inspections as necessary to verify that the designated facilities are functioning within condition limits for the purpose intended.
10. Maintains specific plant logs in which various aspects of the system’s operation are recorded; including but not limited to pressure, temperature, equipment status, water levels, electrical readings.
11. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
12. Complies with all Company policies and procedures and adheres to Company standards.
13. Performs any related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Three or more years experience as plant operator or auxiliary operator in military, utility or heavy industry. Able to obtain and maintain normal local licensing requirements for performing specified work. Ability to pass Power Plant Fundamentals Training Program and Operator qualification Program within three months of hire. Knowledge of engineering fundamentals necessary for effective and safe operation of complex electrical and mechanical equipment and systems. Team player committed to working in a quality environment. Shift worked required as scheduled for 24 hour plant operation and coverage including overtime scheduled work as required.
