BP's Supply and Trading activities were brought together in our Integrated Supply and Trading division (IST), formed in 2001. IST's role in the Group is to enhance performance and maximize value for BP's Assets through the disciplined application of Supply and Trading insights and techniques. IST actively manages the links between Assets and across Supply Chains, contributing to distinctiveness and competitive advantage for BP.


Our expertise and reputation is built around our people, systems and information flows. We operate across all BP's businesses, touching 60-65% of the Group's turnover, providing the commercial face of BP to the traded commodity and financial markets.


IST Oil Americas handles the Supply and Trading activities for BP's Oil and Chemical businesses in the Americas. The Regional Business and majority of our 700+ staff are headquartered in Warrenville, Illinois, with a material presence in offices in La Palma, California; Houston, Texas; and Calgary, Canada. Our teams work closely with the BP Business Units in Refining and Marketing and Exploration and Production.


BP Coke operates as a turnkey business with Financial Services, Technical Services, Sales and Marketing, Logistic Services, as well as departments within the team. BP Coke supports full Supply Chain Management for the "bottom of the barrel" coke product line. BP Coke services IST and Refining to create crude Trading & Supply space while maintaining sustainable Supply Chain product line margins. BP Coke creates "added value" service offerings to customers that enables forward integration into our customer businesses to occur.


The Coke Laboratory Technician is part of the Technical Services team within BP Coke. This team coordinates the technical support (quality assurance/quality control and operational) and direct communications to both BP refining/calcining production facilities, as well as customer end users. The team engages both internal and external specialists/suppliers for support and operates a complete laboratory, which includes both pilot plant and analytical operations at its Anaheim facility.


The Coke Laboratory Technician position roles and responsibilities in the organization are varied and require flexibility. The majority of the time working hours will be between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday; however, some flexibility will be required (i.e., working evenings and weekends, as well as some overtime).


Accountabilities Include:

Perform lab testing as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
Support Facility Maintenance and Security.
Support Client and Customer Operations in the Field.
Support Customer and Client communications.
Promote lab safety.
Present a professional and competent image of the department when dealing directly with both internal and external customers.


Required Qualifications: 
To be considered for the role of Coke Laboratory Technician applicants must have:

A minimum of a High School Degree, or equivalent.
A passionate dedication to the team environment, and be adaptable to a rapidly changing business environment.
Strong communication and personal skills, along with the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
The ability to apply analytical thinking to complex problems and provide solutions, while meeting challenging time commitments.
Strong computer skills, as well as be fluent in MS Office (Word and Excel).
Capability of using spreadsheets, e-mail, and a carbon lab database.
The ability to provide proof of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record, as well as the ability to operate company vehicles.
The physical ability to move drums, gas cylinders, large buckets, and other miscellaneous equipment.
The ability to follow all standardized test procedures.
A proactive approach in responding to potential environmental and safety situations. Examples include waste spills, fire evacuation and moving drums.
General knowledge of laboratory analytical techniques and practices.
The willingness and ability to work flexible working hours, as the laboratory is a 24-hour operation.
Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.


Preferred Qualifications: 
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

Experience working with Access database.
