Director, Asset Planning

The United Illuminating Company, headquartered in New Haven Connecticut is an investor-owned regional electric utility that provides service to more than 314,000 customers in the greater New Haven and Bridgeport area. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team in our New Haven Headquarters.

A change leader to perform technical assessments of transmission assets coupled with long-range transmission system planning and optimization. Actively seek business relationships with ISO New England, NEPOOL, and CSC. Conduct extensive research and analysis including the development of technical business cases, budget entries, and integration with ISO New England's RSP. Prepares technical business cases that define goals and objectives for achieving transmission system optimization for the identified transmission opportunity through system studies, and evaluation of proposed new generation interconnections. Examines and analyzes ISO New England regional system plans (RSP) and Capacity, Energy, Loads and Transmission (CELT) to determine optimal methods to integrate load and energy forecasts, resource adequacy studies, and transmission plans. Identifies and manages productive business relationships with ISO New England, NEPOOL, and CSC to uncover technology linkages, business opportunities, and develop solutions. Establishes methods to measure and assess the impact of the technical solutions through transmission planning studies, bulk power system simulations, results analysis and reliability recommendations. Provides strong leadership, coaching, direction, and vision to the planners and analysts in the Asset Planning organization.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor?s Degree in Engineering or Business and a minimum of 12 years engineering experience, specifically in power systems planning, design, operations, or the energy business. A Master?s degree in Power Engineering is desirable. Demonstrated ability to perform long-range transmission system assessment, application of economic and financial data, and system optimization. Knowledge of ISO New England regional system plans, technical business case development, system studies, Transmission Operations, and Transmission System Capabilities. Liaison and relationships with ISO New England, NEPOOL, and CSC.
