Lineman SL

Progress Energy FL is actively recruiting Journeymen Linemen for locations within the FL Service area.

This position is within the Florida Power bargaining unit. These minimum job qualifications are meant for recruiting purposes only, the specific job tasks will be set by management.

Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) aptitude testing is required for this position.

Minimum Requirements:
The candidate should have completed an extensive apprenticeship and currently hold a lineman position.
Individual must possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license.
Applicant must demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices, the ability to work within a team, good communications skills, and a desire to develop apprentices.

Assist in performing work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical Distribution/Transmission facilities; Drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. All items apply to overhead and underground facilities as applicable. Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work.

Perform duties in accordance with the company's safety rules, regulations and practices, and report unsafe conditions and practices; be familiar with the use and care of insulating rubber gloves, sleeves, and other personal protective equipment.

Must possess the ability to deal with employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and proper manner
Must be available to work overtime and accept emergency calls from home.
Must be able to work in a team oriented environment as well as handle individual assignments.
Must demonstrate the ability to understand and help achieve corporate goals.
Basic computer skills desired but not required.

Education:
High School Diploma/GED required.

Machines and Equipment Operated as Part of the Job:
Pickup trucks, material trucks, service trucks, hand tools, ladders, small hand tools, test instruments, lifting devices, bucket trucks, vacuum pumps.

Working Conditions:
1. Variations in workload: Varies from moderate to extremely strenuous with peak periods of activity during outages.
2. Variations in amount required: Extremely close attention to detail on a continual basis.
3. Lifting, climbing, shoveling, pulling, stooping and unusual physical positions: i.e., working in elevated positions with body belts and using both hands even though the position may be abnormal.
4. Frequent overtime and call outs. Adverse weather conditions are not unusual.
