Transmission System Administrator

The Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG Power) is the third largest electric power supplier in Georgia. As a public power corporation, our primary purpose is to generate and transmit reliable, wholesale power to our 49 Georgia communities that includes approximately 600,000 citizens and many businesses. MEAG Power does this through our four co-owned generating plants, 16,000 miles of transmission lines, and the collective efforts of our participant cities.



Summary:



Monitors MEAG Power?s transmission and distribution system using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (?SCADA?) system and assist in resolving the problems identified with SCADA including having direct communication with MEAG Power?s customers.  Monitors, evaluates and approves short-term requests for transmission service over the Internet using an Open Access Same-time Information System (?OASIS?).  Timely approves transactions that use MEAG Power?s transmission system using an Internet based electronic tagging system.

 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities: 

 

1.  Monitors MEAG Power?s transmission and distribution system using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (?SCADA?) system.

 

2.  Notifies the appropriate entities (e.g. MEAG Power Operations, city personnel, Georgia Power, etc.), and assists in the timely resolution of problems identified using the SCADA system.

 

3.  Monitors, evaluates and approves short-term requests for transmission service over the Internet using an Open Access Same-time Information System (?OASIS?).  Timely approves transactions that use MEAG Power?s transmission system using an Internet based tagging system.

 

4.  Assists with invoicing for transmission services bought using the OASIS.

 

5.  Notifies the appropriate persons in the event of a failure of the SCADA systems, the OASIS or tagging system and assist with the restoration of these systems.

 

Qualifications:

 

The position requires a diploma from an accredited high school and the ability to reliably perform shift work.  In addition, the position requires familiarity with computer systems, complex spread sheets and basic principles of electricity as well as the ability to communicate effectively with customers.  Prefer SCADA (UNIX) experience.  Relevant post-secondary training or experience is preferred.  Oasis and/or E-tagging experience is a definite plus. 

 

Must be willing to work any shift.

 

Level placement will generally depend on the relevant experience, post-secondary education or training.
