Environmental Compliance Coach (Supervisor)

 The District

 

Union Sanitary District is a public agency whose goal is to protect human health and the environment by responsibly collecting, treat­ing, and disposing of wastewater for the cities of Fremont, Newark and Union City, Califor­nia.  The Position

 

The District has an immediate opening for an Environmental Services Supervisor (Coach) of a team composed of highly experienced pretreatment and pollution prevention inspectors. The District also provides contract services related to Urban Runoff to the City of Fremont. The Coach classification is a first-line management position reporting to the Technical Support and Customer Services Manager.

 

The Coach must have the ability to understand the technical details of the pretreatment and pollution prevention aspects of the Environmental Program in order to provide technical support and demonstrate leadership capabilities to promote employee and team growth and effectiveness.

 

 

Requirements*

 

Completion of a Bachelor?s degree with major course work in chemistry, biology, environmental science or a closely related field 

 

Five years? increasingly responsible experience in pretreatment, pollution prevention and urban runoff programs

 

Ability to obtain a California Water Environment Association Grade III Industrial Waste Inspector Certificate within 18 months of appointment to the position

 

Have knowledge of industrial waste inspections and investigations, evaluation of waste discharge permit applications, compliance monitoring reports, pollution prevention programs, storm water regulations, complex pretreatment designs, and enforcement activities

 

Have skill in analyzing complex environmental situations, interpreting a variety of physical, chemical, microbiological, and bacteriological test data on water and wastewater, and preparing reports

The annual base pay for the Environmental Compliance Coach is $100,925. The initial salary will be no less than 80% of the base pay as determined by qualifications. It is possible to achieve merit-based compensation up to $105,971 annual salary and additional performance incentives. 

 

The benefits package described below is valued at more than $30,000 per year for an employee with two or more dependents.

 

? Public Employees? Retirement System, 2.5% @ 55 retirement formula?the District contributes 6% of the employee share (8% of gross salary); employee share is paid on a pre-tax basis. Employees participate in the Medicare portion of Social Security only.

 

? Major medical, dental, and vision care for employee and dependents up to $13,560; life insurance, long- and short-term disability; flexible spending accounts for medical reimbursement and dependent care ($5000 each)

 

? The District will contribute up to $3050 per year into deferred compensation plan(s), dependent on the employee?s participation

 



? Car allowance of $310 per month

 

? Two weeks vacation per year, increasing with longevity; 13 paid holidays and 40 hours administrative leave per year

 

? An Alternate Work Hours program whereby employee schedules allow for an additional day off each two-week pay period
