Director of Claims

Reporting to the Vice President, the Director of Claims, oversees the operations, processes and workflow of multiple teams or jurisdictions.


Provides technical guidance and direction to the team in the areas of workers? compensation procedures, case law, and company policies.

Provides soft skill training like coaching, mentoring and assists with development plans to supervisors as well as team members.

Communicates corporate changes in strategy, training needs related and action plans for next steps.

Oversees case management of the overall teams. Provides guidance on more intense claims and approves large dollar reserve transactions.  Assists and approves utilization of additional resources to get the right case outcome.

Reviews daily, weekly and monthly reports of case information, whether reserves, new creations, closing, etc.  Randomly reviews and uses technology to spot check all areas of the organization.

Evaluates teams in relation to one another.  Also responsible for developing plans on improving operational results within their units of responsibility.

Works with branch management to create reporting needs.  Assists with the resources to provide such reports.  Often does analysis for the office and shares the data for consumption by branch management.

Sets audit schedules for the year.  Pulls either internal or external resources together to conduct the studies.  Responds to all draft reports before finals are written so comment or conclusions can be addressed.

Manages large books of business, which may include multiple jurisdictions.

Provides on-going performance feedback to direct reports. 

Uses operational audits and yearly compliance audits to gauge performance of branch and individual units.

Hold management meetings to discuss vision and goals.

Creates an environment within the branch offices that supports teamwork, growth and innovation.

Works with management from other disciplines and offices to problem solve. Employs expertise for given issues.

Ensures the office is providing solid customer service at all levels for both internal and external customers. 

Ensures that we are fulfilling our agreements made at policy inception.  Works with units and accounts to enhance the level of service being provided.

May also give presentations to agency groups or other professional affiliates that request an overview of the worker?s compensation market or our services.


 


Education, Skills & Experience:


Demonstrated leadership with a branch. 

Is a champion of change.

Expert listener and problem solver.

Highly skilled in building business information, disseminating it and sharing with senior management.

Expert in workers compensation and current case law. 

Solid understanding of the core business, strategies and practices required to successfully run the office.

Prior experience managing other management level staff.

Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent experience.
