The Boy Scouts of America has been the nation?s largest and foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training since 1910.  Guiding and directing this program are nearly 3,500 full-time professionals.

 

Professional Scouting Overview:

 

Begin your career in Scouting as a manager in a district or service area within a local council.  Job responsibilities are broad and varied.  Duties include recruiting, promoting, supervising and working with local volunteers.  If you have skills in marketing, human relations, public relations, fundraising, business management or sales, professional Scouting could be right for you.  Part of your time is spent in the office while the other share is spent in the field, checking out the action in your service area to ensure that goals and objectives are met.

 

Entry-level Position Description:

 

The district executive is responsible for managing the overall growth, extension, quality, program enhancement and supervision of the Scouting program within a specified geographical area.  The district executive achieves this by identifying, cultivating, recruiting and guiding adult volunteers who in turn support, train and motivate the adult volunteers who deliver the Scouting program to youth.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

 

Minimum starting salary is $34,300, plus a benefit package that includes an automobile allowance, major medical coverage, dental assistance plan, vision service plan, accident insurance, life insurance and retirement.  This benefit package is considered among the best in the nonprofit sector.  On the basis of an individual?s performance, salaries increase each year.  Training provided.

 Bachelor's degree United States citizen or declared intention to become one An Adult at least 21 years of age People-oriented, having the ability to work well with adult volunteers, community and business leaders, and representatives of other organizations Able to work varied hours when necessary to achieve positive objectives, including evenings and weekends Believe in the BSA and subscribe to its principles and standards Possess characteristics of a self-starter, team player, goal-oriented and a committed individual Must be willing to live within the service area
