Recreation Specialist
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in scheduling, organizing and supervising private rentals and community events. Participate and lead event, meetings and private rentals. Duties also include facilitating communication before, during and post event with pertinent staff to ensure a high level of service. This position is highly visible and would assist handling and addressing special needs or facility requests. Detailed knowledge of group dynamics and event details is required. Participate in the determination of personnel, equipment and materials needed for assigned program activities; may participate in the interviewing, hiring, training and supervising of recreation personnel; responsible for daily operations of indoor and outdoor facilities; respond to complaints and resolve complaints in a satisfying manner; make recommendations regarding news releases and brochures concerning recreation community events and private rentals; maintain inventories of program supplies and equipment; evaluate program attendance and costs, make recommendations regarding the continuance or cancellation of programs; maintain order and discipline in parks; enforce safety procedures for participants and spectators; assist in the collection of fees for program participation; and may perform other related duties as required.
HOURS: Work Monday through Sunday with a varying and flexible schedule and available for emergency situations, which may include nights and weekends.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Equivalent to graduation from high school and two years prior experience in recreation or related field. Knowledge of Recreation Programs including adult and children programs desirable. Possess valid California Class C drivers? license; CPR and First Aid certification desirable (however, can be certified within 30 days of employment). Spanish speaking desirable but not required.
Working knowledge of the theories, practices and programs common to the field of recreation and leisure services, operations and management; budgeting and personnel management as practiced in public agencies; principles of supervision; first aid methods and safety practices related to recreation al program planning and evaluation; methods of identifying community recreation needs.
Ability to write reports and keep accurate records; operate a computer and use a variety of software programs; communicate effectively with a variety of personnel and establish effective working relationships; explain and apply policies and procedures; understand and follow verbal and written directions; operate programs within budgetary limitations; analyze unusual situations and resolve through application of City and Departmental policies; and work safely and enforce safety procedures.

BENEFIT: City employees belong to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS) of the State of California. The City pays 3.75% and the employee pays 3.75% to equal 7.5%.
