Nursing Informatics Coordinator
Overview : Shift: Nights, 40 hrs wk, some weekend work.
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide a Nursing Informatics resource for the facility. As a resource, the Informatics nurse provides on-going user education and support and informatics support for various teams and committees throughout the facility. This position provides facility vision and direction for computer systems, process design, data management and related processes. The informatics nurse serves as a liaison between the facility and the Clinical Information System IT team to communicate user needs and facilitate system modification to meet user needs.
Responsibilities :
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Coordinates the development, delivery, and evaluation of clinical staff education related to the Clinical Information Systems. Coordinates the training provided during new employee orientation to support competency of new users in their use of the Information Systems. Develops and delivers on-going user education and communication to maintain user competency. Coordinates and leads the planning and delivery of conversion education in the deployment of new technology and system upgrades.
2.Maintains on-going user support structure. Provides opportunities for users to verbalize concerns and suggest potential improvements related to the use of the information systems. Evaluates the impact the information systems have on daily user workflow. Coordinates work with users and the Information Technology department to resolve conflicts between workflow and the information systems. Supports staff to use technology in a manner which promotes maintenance of patient safety and confidentiality.
3.Coordinates and facilitates on-going information system evaluation including: user accuracy, data integrity, and system reliability. Develops and implements action plans as needed to support user accuracy, data integrity and system reliability. Participates in post implementation change evaluation and supports users in maintaining changed processes.
4.Participates in interdisciplinary and process improvement teams to identify potential future uses of the information systems and potential improvements in the current use of the systems. Serves as a nursing informatics resource, to individuals and teams throughout the facility.
5.Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in the field of Nursing and Healthcare Informatics, as well as new developments in hardware and software technology. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices, regulatory standards, and organizational direction. Utilizes this knowledge in supporting users and process teams.
Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment and attends safety education sessions.

Requires the ability to coordinate information and activities, work under stress of deadlines and frequent interruptions, and to possess analytical problem solving skills. Requires the maintenance of familiarity with clinical care processes and information technology. Must use highly developed interpersonal skills and display the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing field of computer science. Work environment varies from office to clinical setting. Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time
EQUIPMENT USED:
Personal computer with various types of software: Microsoft office suite, Clinical applications, and resource management applications. Multi-line phone system, various printer devices, compact disk, copier, scanners, fax.
MARGINAL/ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Uses Education Tracking systems to maintain records of employee education related to the Clinical Information Systems.
2. Supports or maintains the user access to various information systems.
3. Provides On-call user support for information systems
4. Supports the development and maintenance of policy and procedures related to the information systems.

Scope of Supervisory Responsibilities:
Facilitates the training and development of team members to meet the needs of end users. Evaluates all levels of system users for accuracy and consistency in use of clinical information systems. Develops action plans as needed to correct end user deficiencies in the use of the information systems. Develops schedules for training team members and go-live support staff to provide adequate coverage to meet user needs throughout periods of implementation.

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY:
This position must interact with and support all levels of end users throughout the facility, including technicians, nurses, therapists, and physicians. This position must coordinate interdisciplinary activities in the planning and modification of the clinical information system, both at the facility and at the system level.
Internal Customers: All levels of management and staff, medical staff, and other healthcare members for the purpose of integrating services, improving patient care, ensuring effective communication systems and facilitating decision making in clinical practice.
External Customers: Patients and families regarding patient care issues. Physicians regarding patient care and program development. Vendors in the implementation and modification of information systems.
Qualifications :
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires current Arizona R.N.licensure. Bachelors degree in Nursing or related field preferred, or must obtain within reasonable period after entry into position. Certification in Nursing Informatics preferred. Needs skill levels typically acquired in 5 years of clinical nursing practice and 2 years in Informatics. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft office applications. Must possess a basic understanding of integrated clinical systems. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills.
