 Reporting Relationship:

The Clinical Research Consultant (?CRC?) reports to Vice President of Clinical Informatics.

Downtown San Francisco

 

Summary Description of Duties:

The CRC will be familiar with physician profiling techniques, clinical coding, evidence-based research to identify the proper codes and clinical content for quality and utilization measures based on medical claims (CPT, ICD-9), pharmacy (NDC), lab (LOINC), and abstracted chart results (patient health records) data.  This position will work with standard measurement sources, such as HEDIS, and procedure/diagnosis coding manuals during their review of codes and definitions. In addition, this person will serve as a resource for clinical development activities and respond to internal client requests. We are looking for a solid clinical and coding background combined with excellent attention to detail and great client service skills.  

 

Primary Responsibilities:

1.  Update clinical definition coding logic based new evidence (literature)

2.  Develop new clinical definitions to support creation of new quality and cost of care indicators or specifications

3.  Work with clients and physicians on clinical measure development

4.  Recommend clinical code updates and prepare documents for clinical signoff

5.  Validate the accuracy of all clinical definitions and coding used in measurement

6.  Work with informatics to perform measure testing and validation

7.  Conduct medical literature reviews

8.  Familiar with utilization statistics and physician and facility quality and cost profiling

9.  Write clinical education content for company applications and client portals

10.  Work on special projects and other assignments.

 Qualifications:

1.  Experience with HEDIS measures or similar specifications and a good background in a healthcare related field and disease management are strongly preferred

2.  Knowledge of clinical terminology and  clinical coding is required

3.  10 or more years of experience in a healthcare field or health care information technology vendor

4.  Experience with electronic medical record is desirable.

5.  Bachelor?s degree in healthcare related field required. MPH or MBA preferred. RN License required

6.  Four years of experience in managed care organization (Utilization Management, Case Management, Quality Assurance, Disease Management)

7.  Strict attention to detail, high degree of accuracy and highly organized work style

8.  Strong computer skills.  Proficiency in using Microsoft Office for Excel, Word and PowerPoint

9.  Work independently on multiple projects with minimal supervision or direction

10.  Strong communication (listening) and interpersonal skills (ability to negotiate with colleagues, including all levels of staff.

11.  Excellent writing skills. 

12.  Team oriented.  Demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit. Display professionalism, high energy level, significant commitment, and demonstrated interest in building the company

13.  Must be a fast learner, self-starter and one who continues to learn as solutions and industry dynamics change.

14.  Willing to work hard, passion for detail, and able to work under pressure and deadlines.
