Ophthalmic Assistant/ Technician laser vision center

State of the art lasik center in beautiful Boca Raton, Florida seeks a certified ophthalmic assistant.  The Cohen Laser and
Vsion Center has been in Boca since 1991 and is the leader in laser vision correction in south Florida . This position is for exceptional individuals who enjoy laser vision correction and cornea surgery patients, who would like to learn new skills and grow with our team.  We have a fantastic staff, friendly and hard working and work in a pleasant environment. The individual must have excellent communication skills, and patient rapport. This individual will be trained to use a VISX laser, microkeratome and perform wavescan and corneal topography as well as assist in minor surgeries, Botox and Restylane treatments

 

Job Purpose:

Assist in work up and treatment of Ophthalmology patients



Duties:

* Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical, and ophthalmic history; confirming purpose of visit, record medications, allergies



* Checks condition of patients' eyes by refraction,observing pupils, visual acuity, extraocular movements, intraocular pressure.



* Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating their pupils; reporting patient history summary, changes in visual acuity, elevated extraocular pressure,  to ophthalmologist.


 

*Assist ophthalmologist by helping with office procedures such as laser surgeries, tear duct probes, chalazion, Schirmer tests



* Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records;  keeping patient information confidential.



* Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, and questions about surgery.return patient phone calls after discussing with doctor.



 

* Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.



* Keeps medical and contact lens supplies ready by inventory stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.



* Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns;  performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.



* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.



* Serves and protects the ophthalmology practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.



* Enhances ophthalmology practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.



Skills/Qualifications:

 

JCAHPO Certified COA or COT Required

Refraction, applanation tonometry, dilation, Humphrey visual field, A scans, corneal topography, color vision, stereopsis, and pachymetry.

 

Experience with VISX laser, microkeratome or Intralase a plus.

 Verbal Communication,  Customer Focus, Confidentiality, Bedside Manner, Medical Teamwork
