Per Diem Radiologic Technologist

Job Duties 1. Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic x-rays films; determines exposures factors on the basis of height, weight, portion of body involved, and degree of penetration required.
2. Practices appropriate coning and shielding to reduce radiation exposure and fogging; maintains safety standards to guard against injury to patients and other staff personnel.
3. Sets controls and exposes the required number of type of film; takes special x-ray views as directed.
4. Mixes and administers barium by standard dilution during contrast media studies; recognizes symptoms of reactions to contrast media and reports such reaction to a physician.
5. Elicits the cooperation of patients by explaining procedures; attempts to comfort those who fear radiographic examination by giving assurance.
6. Evaluates the patients' condition and uses judgment in accurately positioning the patient for radiological procedures; uses supportive devices as necessary to obtain optional radiographs.
7. Cleans and maintains equipment; maintains films, chemical and general office supplies; reports broken or malfunctioning equipment; records patient information, film serial numbers, and number and type of views taken in patient records.
8. Assists in the training of Radiographic Technology students and in familiarizing newly employed technologists with examination procedures; may assist in classroom instruction of Radiographic Technology students and Radiology personnel in basic Radiographic Technology.
9. Assists with fluoroscopic x-ray examination as required.
10. Performs mobile x-ray examinations on the units and in the Operating Room as required.
11. Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.
In addition to the above, the Radiologic Technologist II performs the following:
12. Plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews the performance of Radiologic Technologists I on a shift; reviews the work of Radiologic Technologists I for quality and instructs them on techniques and procedures involved in positioning patients, operating equipment, and processing film.
13. Maintains equipment, supplies and darkroom in clean and properly functioning order and makes minor mechanical adjustment to x-ray and other apparatus and advises supervisor of needed repairs.
14. Monitors usage of supplies and requisitions any needed items to avoid shortages and work stoppage

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
