Somerby University Park, a premiere assisted living community in Birmingham, has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Sous Chef. We are looking for a strong, experienced manager with excellent communication skills to enhance the lives of our elderly residents. The candidate must be flexible; willing to work evenings, weekends and some holidays. The Chef performs multi-functional culinary duties related to food preparation including set-up, service and clean up. Other responsibilities include:

The Sous Chef performs multi-functional culinary duties related to food preparation including set-up, service and clean up. Other responsibilities include:

* Supervise food production in the absence of supervisor
* Prepare food daily as outlined on the Food Production Worksheet
* Maintain kitchen sanitation and safety standards.
* Assist with set-up, service and clean-up of food production
* Ensure proper sanitation and storage of kitchen equipment
* Assist with safety and training procedures in handling of food service equipment
* Ensure compliance with state local and regulatory agencies as it relates to Food Service
* Other duties as assigned by supervisors

We seek the following qualifications:

* High School diploma or equivalent
* Culinary education preferred (AA degree or higher)
* Previous Sous Chef experience preferred
* Minimum one year volume cooking experience
* Previous Health Care Food Service experience preferred
* Two years of previous supervisory experience
* Understanding of working with older population
* Ability to work early morning or evening shifts
