Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:

1.Advises employees and managers regarding Phelps Dodge human resources policies and procedures. Handles personnel/employment issues, working closely with and counseling managers on how to respond to and resolve situations.
2.Develops and implements specialized recruitment strategies for critical exempt, non-exempt and production openings at the site. Oversees or conducts preliminary selection processes (critiquing, screening and testing applicants) for employment.
3.Oversees, or conducts position audits/ analyses.
4.Does conduct, or coordinates new hire orientation.
5.Conducts and analyzes exit interviews.
6.Participates in, or develops and presents, employee/ manager training on human resources and general management issues.
7.Researches current/emerging human resources trends and programs.
8.Contributes to the development or recommendations for new and/or enhanced human resources policies and procedures.
9. Participates in the Safety on-call process.
10.Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

*Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business or closely related area.
*Five (5) or more years experience as a human resources generalist, preferably in the mining industry or in a manufacturing environment.
*Possess and applies a broad knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources management.
*Skilled in comprehending /analyzing organization and procedural problems. Make sound recommendations and conclusions.
*Have effective verbal and written communication skills.
*Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
*Able to utilize personal computers and associated software; including Human Resources Management systems and Microsoft Office applications
*Must be able to pass a smelter physical
*Participates in Runzheimer vehicle program

Preferred Qualifications:

*Work experience in smelter and/or rod plant or other hot-metal environment
*Knowledge of People Soft software preferred
*Experience in labor arbitration procedures

Criteria/Conditions(specific background and skills):

*Position offices in the Miami smelter.

*Work is mostly performed in an office setting. Occasionally work will be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting.
*While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
*Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 25 pounds) during the course of the workday.
*Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing plant environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other protective equipment as required.
