Life and Health Underwriter

USAA is currently seeking a talented Life and Health Underwriter for our Phoenix, AZ location.

As a Life and Health Underwriter for USAA, you will underwrite individual life and health insurance applicants according guidelines established for the issuance of policies and within the approved binding authority. You will determine whether to accept, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information pertinent to the decision.

Qualified candidates need to possess:

Knowledge of the life insurance industry, products, services and operations.

Understanding of the challenges, opportunities, strengths and risks associated with the life insurance business.

3-5 years of experience in processing life insurance applications.

Strong decision making ability and demonstrated leadership skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proven customer contact skills.

Ability to work under pressure.

Ability to work extended hours.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Preferred experience includes:
Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations.
Job related education including coursework in physiology and/or biology.
Ability to read and interpret electrocardiograms (EKG's).
