Mission:
Lead the design effort on a variety of projects in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. Champion the user and provide direction on improving the overall experience, usability, and functionality for all products. Foster and support a collaborative, innovative culture, working closely with product managers, engineers, visual designers, web developers and user researchers to develop new and improve existing product functionality for the United Online product offering. This position is the primary author of the documentation which serves as functional specifications for prototyping, development, and QA.
Responsibilities:
1. Apply the user-centered experience design practice to United Online products.
2. Create interactive prototypes to flesh out design concepts, communicate ideas, and use in usability tests.
3. Develop, evaluate, iterate and implement high quality detailed UI specifications for complex projects, including use cases, flow diagrams, wireframes and final UI documentation.
4. Generate UI systems that advance CED and business objectives and success metrics.
5. Ensure design specifications meet the strategic goals of the product teams and that products are deployed according to design specifications.
6. Incorporate CED guidelines, business requirements and corporate goals into design solutions.
7. Identify emerging best practices within Interaction Design.
8. Work with usability researchers to design test plans and iterate designs throughout user testing.
9. Translate usability research findings into design improvements.
10. Work with visual designers to improve and refine visual design and consistency.
11. Proactively communicate status and updates to relevant stakeholders throughout UI process.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelors or Masters Degree preferably in Human Factors/HCI, Industrial Design, product application design, or related field and/or depth of experience.
2. At least 6 years experience in interaction design or related area participating in the complete product development lifecycle of several successfully launched web and/or software applications.
3. Must have experience with high-traffic e-commerce or e-business sites, development of web applications, HCI, and knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Visio and HTML page creation tools.
4. Expert knowledge of user interface design principles, HCI practice, user testing methods, user centered design practice and knowledge of the product development process.
5. Must have a solid understanding of application design.
6. Ability to solve complex issues as well as supply technically viable alternatives.
7. Capacity to review the work of junior interaction designers and provide guidance.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
9. Able to collaborate with others in a cross-functional team and foster a positive collaborative environment.
10. Methodical, detail oriented, efficient, organized, self-starter, highly productive.
11. Must be organized, have an eye for detail and be able to put ideas into a tangible form with a focus on user and business objectives.
12. Ability to develop new and innovative approaches to complex design problems.
13. Able to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment and meet deadlines.
14. Experience with Visio, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
15. Basic experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for prototyping
