Sr. UNIX Administrator (App Ops)

Sure, our name ends in ".com" but we were founded as a publishing corporation 19 years before our Web site was even launched!  While Edmunds.com has the best consumer automotive content on the Web, we?re more than just an ?Internet? company.  Our comprehensive set of data, tools and services are also licensed to third parties and used by over 15,000 car dealers.  We also supply content for the auto sections of AOL, CNN.com, NYTimes.com and About.com.

 

Job Responsibilities: Architect, design, implement and document all production and pre-production infrastructure solutions.Work with application architects and software engineers to define requirements and standards.Develop and implement plans for deploying new services in a highly automated environment. Provide operational support for all of the company?s systems.Play a leadership role in project planning, design and implementation of new services and applications.Work with the team to investigate and improve security as it relates to applications and processes; participate in the process of keeping all systems and applications patched and up to date.Participate in 24x7 on-call support for the company's production systems. Actively participate in the development and improvement of a monitoring system(s).Support operations at multiple locations.Maintain effective working relationships with other IT Staff members, internal customers and technical staff at collocation providers.  Maintain professional relationships with all vendors.

 Qualifications:5-7 yrs of proven, In-depth technical knowledge of and experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD operating systems running web based applications.Extensive experience designing and deploying environments with Weblogic application servers, Apache & Tomcat web servers and Oracle database servers.Software experience with Bind, Open LDAP, Postfix/Sendmail, Redhat Satellite Server, PXE, Network Appliance storage, Sitescope, Cacti, MySQL, Syslog-ng, Automount, NFS v2 & v3, RPM Spec file and automation.Hardware experience with Dell PowerEdge servers including, 1850, 2850, 6850, DRAC, PERC. Experience configuring and maintaining LDAP.Strong knowledge of UNIX scripting.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce usable and maintainable documentation.Demonstrates problem solving abilities and initiative.Ability to deliver projects on schedule.Strong knowledge of networking as it relates to systems and security.Bachelor?s degree in CS or IT from an accredited university preferred. Must be available to be on-call and be prepared to work outside of normal business hours under certain circumstances.
