We are looking for an experienced Sr. Linux/Unix Systems Administrator to join the Citysearch ?Production Systems? team.  Productions Systems is responsible for managing all aspects of the systems infrastructure on the Citysearch network ? from systems engineering and network design, capacity planning, escalation, production launch and support, and infrastructure monitoring.  The Production Systems team in particular designs, enhances and maintains all the above systems in a very efficient and scalable architecture.  Innovation and improvement of new and existing systems is the key focus of the group.  In this position, you will play a major role in the design, implementation and enhancement of the next generation of systems infrastructure based on state of the art technology.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Designs and implements complex local and wide-area network of machines, manages a large site or network, and works under general direction from management.  Establish and recommend policies on system use and services.  Comparable to SAGE level IV.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Primary responsibilities:

? Configure, install, maintain and tune unix servers running Linux and Solaris

? Maintain Server and Network Security

? Prioritize and manage issues dispatched via a Systems Support Group.

? Diagnose and repair system and network issues

? 24/7 on call duties in rotation with other admins

? Travel to hosting sites to deploy new servers

? Develop standard operating procedures for both deployment and troubleshooting.

? Research and recommend equipment and applications for deployment

? Identify potential bottlenecks and suggest resolutions

? A solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts ("inode", "superblock").

? A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts.

? Ability to solve problems quickly and completely.

? Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them.

 PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

? 5+ years of Unix administration experience

? 3+ years of Unix experience in high volume web environments (3+ million PV/day)

? Experience working in a large 24/7 multi-datacenter environment

? Kernel tuning and performance for both Linux and Solaris

? Experience working with various web serving technologies ( e.g. Tomcat, Apache, Zeus etc)

? Experience working with load balancing technologies (e.g Foundry, Alteon, Local Director, BigIP, Netscalar etc.)

? Experience working with switching technologies (e.g. Cisco, etc.)

? Strong knowledge of Internet protocols (e.g. http, smtp, dns, etc.)

? Strong knowledge of fundamental networking protocols  as well as the OSI network model (e.g. tcp/ip, udp, etc.)

? Experience working with various open source applications (e.g. Apache, DJBDns, qmail, mysql, etc.)

? Experience with RMA processes

? Experience with rapidly deploying servers (e.g. kickstart, jumpstart, etc.)

? Demonstrated problem analysis/resolution skills

? Strong understanding of diagnostic tools (e.g. top, vmstat, etc.)

? Experience with server and network security including firewalls. (e.g pf, ipsec, ipchains, etc.)

? Experience writing shell scripts to automate various tasks

? Independent, self starter with project management skills

? Strong written and verbal skills
