Website Assistant – Design & Content Development

The Website Assistant will be responsible for various aspects of Web site content updates, design, development and maintenance. Additional responsibilities include administrative oversight of Web projects, basic office tasks and creative input for Web site structure and overall functionality.



RESPONSIBILITIES

The Website Assistant?s daily responsibilities will include extensive Web page design and creation, including raw HTML programming and cleanup, CSS box model design, WYSIWYG page and template creation and integration using Dreamweaver; creating graphic design elements for use within individual Web pages and the overall Web site navigation and ?look & feel? layout; programming web page elements, updating and synchronizing local and hosted Website files, collecting and processing server log files and reports, managing a Contribute content management system and managing public and media e-mail distribution lists.



He/she will need the ability to multi-task and prioritize various projects while maintaining a high quality of work in order to succeed at this position. The ability to quickly acquire new Web related technical skills while managing daily tasks and on-going larger projects is also essential.



The technological and live-online nature of this position's responsibilities requires, sometimes unexpectedly, the working of overtime hours in order to successfully complete assignments. A significant amount of overtime is required during the busier "Oscar" season, approximately November through early-March.



Additionally, as a member of the Academy's Communications Department, he/she may on occasion be called upon to assist with one or more of that department's activities, especially during Oscar season.



In addition, he/she will coordinate the collection of new Web content, insuring that approvals and posting are completed within deadlines. He/she will be required to format raw content materials into Web-ready content, including basic copy editing of text. Strong reading and writing skills are required. The ability to assist with general technical support within the department is also required.


He/she will need to be able to work closely with numerous in-house departments and outside vendors and communicate effectively the needs and limitations of online content with non-technical personnel.



EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences and 1-3 years of experience as a professional Web site designer or Web site programmer is required. The position also requires the ability to speak fluent English and strong reading and writing skills. Movie history or film production knowledge is not required, although it is a useful asset.



The appropriate candidate will need to be a self-starter, able to prioritize responsibilities, comfortable within a fast-paced small department and willing to learn and take on new tasks as the need arises. A professional and pleasant demeanor is also required when interacting with company personnel, vendors or other business-related personnel.



Current expert knowledge of HTML and browser compatibility, Dreamweaver, FTP applications, Photoshop, Fireworks, and Windows & Macintosh platforms and a solid understanding of Flash, Illustrator, CSS, JavaScript, and database structures (such as PHP, MySQL, FileMaker Pro) is required. A basic understanding of backend servers and familiarity with UNIX / LINUX / WINDOWS / OSX platforms is a plus.
