Crypto Linguist (Must qualify for Security Clearance)

Becoming a Crypto Linguist in the United States Army requires an enlistment in either the Army (full-time) or Army Reserve (part-time). Prior to your first duty assignment you will be required to complete 9 weeks of Basic Combat Training (BCT), immediately followed by language training at Monterey, CA. Upon completion of language training you'll be assigned to an intelligence linguist position, and sent to Advanced Individual Training (AIT). During AIT you will learn specific skills required to perform your day-to-day mission. Some of your duties will include, but are not limited to gathering, sorting, and scanning intercepted messages to isolate valid message traffic; Performing initial analysis to establish target identification and communications patterns; maintaining analytical working aids to support target collection, identification, and location; identifying languages spoken in an assigned geographic area and categorizes voice signals by activity type; extracting essential elements of information from foreign voice radio, and written documents to support mission reporting requirements; provide translation assistance to analysts.
