A fleet of more than 300 ships, 4000 aircraft and 370,000 personnel demands a complex system of communications and computer systems to function as a cohesive military unit. Sailors in the Telecommunications field maintain a full spectrum of communications, computer network and alarm systems, mapping and navigation devices, and complex, classified coding and decoding machinery and computers. Sailors in this field may even work in translating, interpreting and transcribing foreign language communications data.
