The Organization:  Western Center on Law & Poverty (WCLP) is California's oldest and largest legal services support center.  With offices in LA, Sacto, and the Bay Area, WCLP advances and enforces the rights of low-income Californians to the basic necessities of life by working statewide for systemic change.  We focus on the areas of health care, affordable housing, public assistance programs, and access to courts.  We achieve our goals through legislative and administrative advocacy, impact litigation, and technical assistance to legal and social services organizations.  Since our founding in 1967, we have won many litigation victories resulting in large-scale improvements in the ways in which low-income people receive benefits and services.  WCLP has a broad base of support from law firms, individual and corporate donors, and foundations.

 

The Position:  WCLP seeks an experienced development director to work out of our LA office.  This full-time position will include:

-- Developing both long and short-range fundraising plans;

-- Planning and coordinating the annual appeals and all fundraising events;

-- Researching funding opportunities for foundation grants and preparing and submitting proposals and grant reports;

-- Cultivating potential and maintaining existing funding sources

-- Engaging with Board members, staff attorneys, and volunteers to support fundraising efforts;

-- Supporting the work of the Development Assistant and volunteers.

 

Qualifications:  The candidate will:

-- possess a Bachelor's degree (a J.D. is preferred, but not required);

-- have a minimum of five years of development experience, preferably in a leadership capacity with a nonprofit organization;

-- possess outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written skills;

-- be able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment;

-- demonstrate excellent organizational skills and familiarity DonorPerfect fundraising software;

-- have an interest in poverty law issues.
