Materials Manager

Knurr, Inc. a leading manufacturer of computer racks, enclosures, and technical furniture is seeking a Materials Manager for its new Chatsworth facility. 

 

Job Description:

Under moderate supervision, the Materials Manager is responsible for purchasing components used to manufacture finished goods inventory for a Lean, build-to-order, production operation.  Principal activities include: Maintaining a materials demand plan; writing P-Req?s and PO?s to approved suppliers; maintaining an inventory cycle-count program and accurate system inventory; and maintaining a daily shortage report.  The Materials Manager works with relevant stakeholders from allied departments including operations, customer engineering and accounting.  On an ongoing basis, the Materials Manager endeavors to lower cost of goods while improving quality and delivery times. 

 

Essential Duties:Executes buys for fabricated metal components and sub-assemblies including but not limited to castings, fabricated sheet metal, aluminum extrusion, moldings, trim, weather-stripping, fasteners, powder-coating and related components from European and U.S. Suppliers for the production of metal enclosures and high-tech workstation furniture.Monitors materials usage patterns and makes recommendations as to min/max, restocking level, and demand fill methods, either through planned buys, or spot-buys as required.Follows established procedures and recommends changes where the outcome will have a beneficial impact on efficiency, quality, delivery, payment and cost of obtaining materials.  Negotiates for least cost using competitive quotation and informal bid methodologies and purchases materials based upon the materials buy plan and spot-buy requirements.Utilizes a Pareto (ABC) materials classification system and coordinates a daily cycle count program for maintaining the accuracy of system level inventory.Participates on the MRB for determining the disposition and handling of non-conforming components, sub-assemblies and services.Coordinates RMA?s with suppliers for the return of non-conforming materials for credit, replacement or repair.Maintains ASL listing and supplier scorecard.Uses Microsoft Excel to the intermediate level.Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: 4 year degree preferred in a related discipline.

 

Experience: Minimum 3 years managing materials, with at least 2 years preparing material requirements plans and at least 2 years executing purchases, including participation in at least one ERP transition, overseas purchasing, facilitating drop-shipments from international suppliers, and working with both dollars and Euros.  Other relevant experience includes Made-2-Manage, Platinum, Crystal Reports and Maynard applications software.
