Am I borrowing too little to get a good deal?

Q I recently responded to a Capital One advert regarding a re-mortgage. The guy who answered my call was very keen at first but when I told him that I wished to re-mortgage ?30,000, he said "his computer was down" and "he would get back to me".

He never did. I'm certain that this was because of the relatively low figure involved. Had I been talking a lot higher amount I got the impression that this guy would have been more than willing to help.

Are there any companies I could contact who wouldn't dismiss me as small fry and would welcome my business?

GAC

A Well, the kind of cherry-picking that you seem to have experienced is not unheard of but you may be pleased to hear that it's relatively unusual. So don't let your Capital One experience put you off remortgaging, since the majority of lenders and/or brokers will be more than pleased to do business with you and won't dismiss you as small fry at all.

It would be a different story, however, if you wanted a mortgage of less than ?25,000. In that case, you'd be hard pressed to find a lender interested in your business - largely because loans of ?25,000 or less are governed by the Consumer Credit Act which mortgage lenders would rather not have to comply with.
