Can I get a home reversion plan?

Q I am a female divorcee, 55 years of age and own my own home. I have a ?60,000 mortgage and my property is worth ?250,000. Is there any way l can sell a share in my home to a company to enable me to pay off the mortgage but live in the house?

A Unfortunately you are too young to take advantage of a home reversion plan under which companies do buy shares in homes allowing the occupant to remain in residence until death or sale of the property. Normally 60 is the minimum age, because companies are not prepared to wait such a long time before being able to sell the property and recoup their investment. Even at 60 the price they would be prepared to offer would be derisory compared with the value of the share purchased because of the potential long time span.
