Project Manager IS

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

- Reporting to the Director PMO and Data Warehouse. The Project Manager/ Operations Excellence is chartered with project management for the Operations Management Production Technology systems.
-The Project Manager assists the Mining Company business stakeholders in obtaining value-added information and process technology solutions/products from the Information Systems Group through management of projects, which drive value or enable strategic change.

-This role includes: Project Management- leading and managing employees/ contractors in project related activities. Managing and working with iboth internal /external teams. Managing service providers, in order to support our business goals and strategies.
-The goal of this position: To work in partnership with Operations Management Stakeholders as a change agent. Agent role will identify /recogonize business process redesign needs, and provide continuous improvement opportunities / initiatives. This will be accomplished by having a complete understanding of all systems and processes that support the mining operations.

-Managerial and Leadership

*Manage and perform business case development, feasibility studies, requirement analysis and the make or buy" evaluation process. Also, the business systems design, development / implementation of Process Technology and the process of improvement initiatives.

*Oversee the execution of the IS project component; which includes: development of a detailed Scope / Definition work plan. Reviewing the impacts/ implications of various steps. Secures project resources, communicates and receives commitments from project sponsors. Initiates purchasing and procurement activities.

*Understands the tactical/ strategic plans of the mine site Operations Management. Process owners in order to support and promote an IS strategy that aligns with the business process/ operations.

*Comprehends all IS related user satisfaction issues within the mine site Operations Management business processes. Will communicate the issues to the Director, Operations & Supply Chain and IS Mmanagement. Will lead resolution of these issues within IS.

Information Technology
*Support and promote an information technology strategy that aligns with enterprise process improvement objectives and is consistent with the overall Information Systems strategy.

*Understand all systems and processes that support the Operations Management business processes. Working with the Operations Management business process owners, understand the tactical and strategic plans in order to support and promote an IS strategy that aligns with the business process and operations.

*Stay current on new business processes, new technologies that may impact the Operations Management business processes, Process and Information Systems technology and methodology strategies, facilitation techniques and project management concepts.

*Analyze potential business problems and determine IS, Process Technology and business process portions of proposed solution. Manage appropriate action based on proposed solutions.

*Negotiating as required with external providers and managing contracts or contract components for services or projects. Create, negotiate and manage change orders as required.

Minimum Requirements:

-Bachelors Degree in Statistical, Civil, Mechanical, or Mining Engineering. ( Manufacturing process technology, or equivalent experience preferred.)
- 5-7 years of experience in the IS process technology field.
(To include service management experience.)
- Effective communication, leadership, and influence competencies; have demonstrated success in working with all levels of employees and management.
-From a functional perspective, this individual must have effective technical, negotiating, and project /program management skills.

IT Specific Competencies:
*Systems Development Methods - A high degree of experience in aspects of the development life cycle and broad understanding of current technology enablers. Some experience using the newer development technologies of rapid application development" approaches using techniques such as prototyping, interactive design, data modeling, CASE tools, screen painting, 4G/L's, etc.
*Administrative / Project Management - Effective in planning and organizing work, efficient in work habits, a high degree of experience in project management techniques including project planning and estimations, project budgeting, staffing, project control techniques, and status reporting.
*End User Tools - An understanding of the capabilities of office system and end user support tools such as spreadsheet software (Excel), word processing (Word), presentation tools (Power Point), project management tools (Microsoft Project, ), e-mail systems, etc.
*Platform Environments -A good knowledge of supporting technologies such as: WIN NT and WIN 95 PCs, NT Workgroup Servers, DEC Alpha UNIX Application Servers.
*Process Technology Systems Skills - Possesses advanced knowledge DCS, HMI, MMI, Scada and other process technology and plant automation technology. Target technologies should apply to the mining, milling, smelting and fabrication industries.
*Technical Skills - Possesses a comprehensive knowledge of database design, and general knowledge of SQL/SQR. Experience developing database applications in Oracle.
*Ability to work with general office equipment such as a personal
*Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Masters degree in Business Administration.
-Experienced in the developing of graphical user interfaces; in tools such as C++, PowerBuilder, and/or Visual Basic is a plus.

Criteria/Conditions(specific background and skills) :
*Position is in busy, non-smoking office located in downtown Phoenix, AZ.
*Location requires mobility in an office environment; each floor is accessible by elevator.
*Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
