Assistant Production Editor

- Handles all production editorial work for book conversions to paperback and a few projects from manuscript through bound book, including:

o placing manuscripts with freelance copy editors and proofreaders

o occasionally hiring freelance indexers

o checking the work of all freelancers

o checking all stages of proofs and blues

o checking flap and panels and marketing ad materials

- Works knowledgeably with editors and freelance designers in anticipating and solving issues.

- Follows up with freelance designers and editors in order to maintain schedules.

- Updates electronic schedules and works comfortably with basic computer editing programs.

- Prioritizes work appropriately, meeting steady turnaround demands while maintaining very high quality.

- Coordinates clerical tasks including--but not limited to--CIP orders, purchase orders, production editing and budget reports, freelancer list.



Must possess college degree or equivalent experience. College level understanding of and use of the English language and book production experience. Must have strong proofreading and copyediting skills (tests are required), ability to focus on details, organization, and prioritization. Some InDesign and Quark experience required.
