Specialist I, Development

Conduct scientific experiments (or pilot plant processes) for the preparation and timely delivery of drug substances (DS), drug products (DP), processes and procedures. Contribute to maintenance of lab instruments/infrastructure.

 

DUTIES:

1. Plan, perform and document scientific experiments/plant activities under supervision.

2. Provide raw data documentation, evaluation and results interpretation. Provide input for the selection of next experiments.

3. Optimize existing methods (lab or plant) and reproduce published methods.

4. Actively support the transfer of procedures to pilot plant or production, including process steering controls etc.

5. Address simple problems. Recognize and communicate complex ones.

6. Perform safety and literature searches under supervision.

7. Keep record of chemicals, intermediates, excipients and solvents within own area of responsibility.

8. Collaborate with other associates to facilitate deliveries of DS and/or DP.

9. Schedule and perform routine maintenance of instruments/equipment.

10. Contribute to lab procedures, reports and/or instructions and/or SOP's.

11. Contribute to evaluation of new lab equipment.

12. Actively participate in knowledge exchange. Train and coach temporary employees and employees under training/education.

 

Key Performance Indicators:

1. Adherence to quality, quantity and timelines for all assigned tasks.

2. Adherence to Novartis standards, in particular, quality, ethical, health, safety, and environment (HSE), and information security (ISEC) standards.

3. Reproducibility of experiments and results.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum: Technician with continuing education (EU) or BS (US) or equivalent Desirable: MS (US) or equivalent. Fluent in site-language. Adequate knowledge of English (oral and written).

1. Minimum of 3 years experience as Technician (promotional pathway) or 0-4 years (for BS) or 0- 2 years (for MS).

2. Awareness for safe handling of chemicals, potentially dangerous materials and equipment.

3. Adequate scientific or technical knowledge in a specific area (e.g. synthetic, analytical, galenical).

4. Basic knowledge in scientific/technical areas of collaboration.

5. Good knowledge of laboratory and/or technical tools.

6. Adequate knowledge of software and computer tools.

7. Basic presentation skills.
