Thoratec Corporation is a leading manufacturer of circulatory support products for use by patients with congestive heart failure.  We sell Ventricular Assist Devices, or VAD?s, to virtually every leading heart transplant center in the world, marketing three out of the four VAD?s approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.  We are also a leading provider of point-of-care blood diagnostic test systems.

We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Director of Supply Chain Management in our Corporate Headquarters located in Pleasanton, California.  This individual will be responsible for directing and managing the material supply chain group assuring the efficient and effective flow of material, components, subassemblies and finished products. Direct management of the material supply chain group includes planning, purchasing, inventory control, warehouse, and shipping/receiving function. Position reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage, coach, and direct the material planning, purchasing, inventory control, material storage, and shipping/receiving functions. Responsible for the strategic direction and development of the materials supply chain group. Provide direction, focus, establishing priorities, and communicate expectations for members within the supply chain group. Create and maintain a strong team culture where team members are informed, involved, and engaged. Develop and implement new policies and practices that will ensure timely and economical delivery of components, assemblies, and finished goods. Responsibility for overall business results of the materials supply chain as measured by cost, quality, output and meeting internal/external customer expectations. Seek out, quantify, and develop opportunities for process improvement. Effectively leverage and optimize cross-function resources and teams. Utilize systems orientation skills and abilities to understand system capabilities, diagnose and identify root cause of supply chain related issues, recommend solutions and implement corrective actions. Development and maintain inventory control systems to track status of purchase orders, inventory levels, and production requirements. Analyze forecast information and translate the information into material requirements and production plans focused on meeting product demand. Direct the overall purchasing function, including managerial administrative responsibilities. Proactively communicate with marketing, sales, and customer service finished goods inventory levels and material related issues that could delay product delivery or impact the normal flow of product to the customer.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
BA/BS Degree in Business equivalent. A minimum of fifteen years materials experience in a supply chain environment with progressive career growth. Candidate must be highly motivated, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, developed leadership competencies, and experience in developing and maintaining a strong materials supply chain.
