Logistics and Traffic Supervisor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 
Possesses strong refrigerated carrier relationships and is actively involved in the freight industry.
Able to manage logistics in a multi-plant environment.
Analyze existing freight rates, review and compute freight rates and negotiate best rates in conjunction with performance and service levels.
Creates metrics for analysis of capacity planning for warehouse shipping and receiving.
Develops and maintains a web accessible freight rate data base available for use in quotations.
Defines procedures for lowest cost movement between plants.
Reviews shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
Oversees all traffic activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of job responsibilities.
Reviews and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
Determine most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation.
Develop and coordinate shipping and receiving schedules with freight carriers, vendors and customers to maximize service levels and improve efficiencies. 
Monitor carrier?s quality of service and overall performance and make appropriate changes as needed.
Verify freight invoices for billing accuracy and recover any overcharges.
Monitor financial and labor relations activities of contract carriers to ensure delivery services are not impaired.
File claims with insurance company for freight claims, losses and damages.
Maintain and update carrier insurance information as required.
Take initiative for identifying areas of improvement and working with management to resolve problems that arise.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization?s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Adhere to company attendance and punctuality policy.
Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Strong oral and written communication skills.  Must be detail oriented and possess knowledge of standard freight documentation and terms including ability to interpret and apply freight rates and schedules.  Must be able to effectively communicate and coordinate with outside agencies and customers regarding the movement of freight.  Experienced working with computers and have the ability to learn, navigate and use designated software programs as required to perform job functions.  Must be able to work effectively in a multi-tasking work environment and work independently with minimum supervision.  Requires one to work under pressure, meet critical deadlines and display the ability to interact positively and effectively with others.Kelly Services is an Equal Opportunity EmployerContact?Information?:.Kelly Services
